iPad Debut

ipad5No one has it and likely won’t for several months but Johnny Ive’s newest high tech creation for Apple, the much heralded iPad,  is generating buzz that both the faithful and skeptics have come to expect.  One thing is certain, when Steve Jobs holds a press conference to tout new product the world tunes in.

Other reaction includes hilarious Tweets from Twitter that run the gamut from @DaniGray: You can do things with #iTampon that you just can’t do with #iPad – like biking, horseback riding and swimming, or the equally bizarre @nhangen LMAO Mad TV already beat Apple to the iPad…Over at the Huffington Post the comments were a bit more articulate but still carried the same tone.  Blogger Eve Tahmi offered this observation after the big announcement “I suspect a room full of female computer engineers would not have named Apple’s new cyber tablet the ‘iPad.’This naming faux pas is a perfect example of why we need more women IT professionals in this world. Apple wants women to buy these gizmos but is anyone really thinking about us gals”?

ipad6“It’s all a bunch of guys in a room going ‘We’ll go with whatever we say. No one will argue with us,’” said Richard Laermer, author of “Punk Marketing“.

Women control more than 83 percent of all consumer purchases, including 66 percent of home computers, and they outpace men when it comes to buying consumer electronics, but they hold only 27 percent of computer-related jobs, according to a study by the National Center for Women & Information Technology.

Some of this is predictable and will likely go on until, like the iPhone and the iPod before it, all of us determine that we must have one ourselves.
