Diesel knows Stupid is as Stupid does
One of the first things that come into my head when I think about any clever ad campaign with clothes is precisely what the brand is trying to sell me in the coming season. And most of the time my idea is right, but Diesel is a label that routinely turns everything upside down. Diesel’s Creative Director and head designer is Wilbert Das who has worked for Diesel since 1988. Wilbert started as a designer on the Male, Accessories, Leather, and Kids lines. He rose quickly to head the style office and creative areas of Diesel, and in 1993 was given the official title of Creative Director, with responsibilities ranging from directing all product design as well as all communication campaigns. Their main goal of an advert is not to show garments but to get the message out about their concept and attract people’s attention. It’s so brilliant, so out there that I can’t help but wonder if it would ever work as well with wine.
As for the notion that it is degrading to women and only portrays ua as sex objects, we all would have to honestly admit that sex appeal is used to sell just abut everything. In this case, Diesel doesn’t so much play on the individuals shown but more so on the natural reactions of the majority of the population and any company that doesn’t want to get this kind of attention or sell their products in this manner should stop immediately. Bottom line, does if offend your consumer? I would also add that it goes well beyond that limited sexual perspective and shows a depth of desirable personality for both the women and the men shown in the ads. This stuff is rogue, irreverent, effective and quite obviously, well… stupid. Diesel now.
As usual, we have a clip.
We also wanted to share another piece of film innovation with this sarcastic take on the casting process. It’s outragiously directed and a masterpiece of the 2 minute video clip. This is art working in negative space. And if you have a “pup out”, iPup or roleplay fetish, then this is your anthem. ”I Wanna Be Your Dog” is a 1969 tune by Iggy Pop while with The Stooges.
