Moms Who Need Wine
Marile Borden is the Founder and Editor of Momicillin Publishing LLC, the company behind Moms Who Need Wine. Momicillin is an online portal for (in their words) “the treatment of crankiness, confusion, self-doubt, body-aches, memory loss, fatigue or general malaise due to excessive exertion or repetition during job-related activities. These activities may include, but are not limited to: binky finding, goop removing, conflict negotiating, facial contorting, bum wiping, boo-boo kissing, block stacking, carpooling, and monster slaying”.
The flagship of the company is without question Moms Who Need Wine, a web site which has become a sort of vino village market square where women can assemble and share the common experiences of motherhood and celebrate the availability of common ground and good wine as reward and relief from its trials. It’s hard to ignore Tina Fey or quite frankly any woman who can look at you with a straight face and say “It’s nice in a piece of stemware, but frankly, I’ll take it in a sippy cup“. And if 300,000 members at the Facebook Fan Page is any indication of how well the movement is doing, we would have to call it a fermenting kind of phenomenon.
When I asked Marile if she was surprised by the movements growing popularity she replied. ”Am I surprised that there are hundreds of thousands of Moms out there who need wine? No! I’m a Mom myself with two young kids, and that nice glass of Pinot at the end of my day is often what gets me through! I always knew I couldn’t be alone in that regard. But what has surprised me is the passion with which these Moms participate and engage in our community. We can post a comment as simple as “Sweet or Salty?” and get, literally, thousands of women to respond with an opinion — most often as it relates to wine! Our moms love being part of this community, finding common ground with other Moms, sharing interests, opinions, and little pieces of their daily lives. Go so far as to ask them about their kids? Then they’ll really gush! It’s been a blast getting to know these Moms, and finding content that interests and excites them. The best part, is that they continue to have a say in what that content is”.
The women behind all of this are by no means behind a promotion that encourages anything more than a bit of practical fun. They are clear to state on the site that “a piece of chocolate, a cafe latte, or a good chick flick can be just as effective”.
There are great wine reviews on the site as well. In fact, the Budget Wine of the Week is pretty spot on in terms of identifying a decent $6 to $10 bottle. And food recipes get thrown in with perfect pairing sensibility as well. The marinated grilled shrimp (which I can personally attest to trying) is splendid. Check it.
